Slept at 2am and woke up at 4am+! Couldn't get back to sleep anymore so just nua on bed till almost 7am and wakes my mom up so we could go to the basement 1 for the free hotel breakfast. It was fairly crowded at 7+ in the morning, guess everyone are willing to wake up early for breakfast! Breakfast spread was not bad! They have all the hot drinks, yoghurt, breads, cooked food, cakes, fruits and salads etc! Here's what we had! ![]() Sweet potato which was super cold, like it was from the refrigerator. Still prefers those piping hot one. Mini Hokkaido cake which was not bad but not great either! Mini slice of waffle which is the fluffiest I've ever tasted, goes well with honey since there is no maple syrup available. Some veg and pork. The stir fry spicy pork was quite yummy but I don't understand why is it so cold, like they just remove it from the fridge! Rest were quite average, edible. Red bean Rabbit bun which is cute but have 大小眼, doesn't really taste good though. My 2nd serving of waffles because I quite like the texture of it which is a little like kueh balu, for real! Their fried nuggets tasted the best among all I guess, at least it wasn't cold! This was the only time we had their hotel breakfast buffet because they didn't give us the coupons for the rest of the days ~_~ Oh well! Went back to the room to watch TV and rest for a little while before heading to bath and prepare to head out! Ximending, 西门町 was our first stop of the day! Took the metro till Ximen Station (Exit 6). It was almost noon when we reached so mom, as usual was craving for something soupy and we settled down at a random eatery, selling some cuttlefish soup! ![]()
Mom's Cuttlefish Soup w Beehoon, NT55 (SGD2.35)
Contains 3 big pieces of cuttlefish and lots of beansprout, the beehoon was a little undercooked. Mom rated it a 7/10, but I feel it was just very average, nothing impressive! ![]()
My first try on 猪血糕, NT15 (SGD0.65)
Can't really accept the taste of it so I ate a piece and just left the rest alone. Texture wise, it's very sticky and chewy! A little hard and don't really have much taste. Don't really like it and the sauce didn't helps at all. Not really a pleasant meal overall because the aftertaste of the 猪血糕 linger in my mouth for a very long time even after drinking water! ~_~ Walked around Ximending for a few rounds after the meal and didn't get to buy anything at all. Too much stuffs for the youngsters, I feel too old for that. Shit, I am talking like I am damn old but seriously, we found nothing nice to buy and prices wasn't really cheap too! ![]() Found my husband's shop after randomly walking around! HAHAHA! Didn't went in because I am super sure I will overspend there and it was just only our 2nd day. Now I sort of regret not entering because I might have buy something I really like! There's alot of salons in Ximending, like one out of every 5 shops would be a salon. Decided to ask mom if she wanna cut her hair since it has been a while since she last visited a salon. We entered a small salon on a level 2, can't remember the shop name but the signboard was white and pink in color, above a umbrella shop! All their stylists are young and good looking girls! Woo! Almost didn't dared to go in after asking the price because I saw 2 dogs in the shop, a bulldog and a toy poodle! People who knows me well would know that I am super afraid of animals, be it dogs or cats! ~_~ One of the stylist was super nice and went to keep the bulldog behind the counter because she says the bulldog likes to smell people alot. Super thankful for that extra effort to bring the dog away from me. Mom have her haircut while I was enjoying the free wifi in the salon. Took pictures of the poodle who was being very nice by keeping some distances away from me, seemingly to know I am afraid of it but it does go and smell other people who enters the salon! Thank you cutiepie! ![]() Mom's haircut was done in about 20-30mins. It was NT360 in total (SGD15.50). Saw cheaper prices elsewhere but I think that it was still worth the money because the stylist really puts in effort to ensure that my mom is satisfied with the haircut. She will ask if the length is fine before she layer the hair or do some minor trimming. Overall, mom was very happy with her new hairstyle because the stylist actually gave her some temporary curls after the haircut at no extra charge, so nice of her! ^-^ No pictures of the hair because I was so distracted with my period, so troublesome to keep worrying if I stain my shorts whenever I stand up after sitting down for a while. Saw a Muah Chee stall at the roadside and we got a pack of 15pcs at NT50 (SGD2.15). ![]() There were a total of 3 flavours available; Red Bean, Sesame and Peanut but we got the Red Bean and Peanut ones only since we aren't fans of sesame! The Muah Chee was super Q and tasted much better than those without fillings like the ones in SG! Plus they are made on the spot after we ordered! Tried 2 pcs before bringing the rest back to the hotel to finish up because I don't really like to eat while walking around. Just my weird habit though! Decided to eat at Sushi Express at XMD after the very unsatisfying meal during noon! All plates was at NT30 (SGD1.30), 20cents cheaper than the ones in SG but they don't have as much choices as the outlets in SG. There wasn't much people since it was after lunch hours but the choices weren't much so we just had 8 plates in total. Here's what we had! ![]() Mango Pudding which was about the same as the ones in SG, nice! Not sure what sushi was that but tasted a little like salted egg sauce so it was not bad! Salmon Nigiri which was quite average, prefer the ones in SG. Squids which were quite hard, not chewy at all. ![]() Thick slice of Tamago which was ultra shiok! Most of the time, such tamago are served in thin slices so eating it in such a big piece is really shiok! Cream puffs which were very meh! Mussels were average, nothing impressive neither was it very fresh. Not sure what's the last one was, it tasted a little like radish with sweet mayo! Quite weird tbh, so I couldn't finish it! Total bill was 240NT (SGD10.30). So suprised they didn't have any service or other charges unlike the outlets in SG. Just wished they have more choices though! Walked around Ximending for the last round after the meal and really didn't get to buy anything so we took the metro back to hotel since I only had like 2hrs sleep the night before. Napped from 6pm till almost 9pm before we head to Shilin Night Market again since it was raining the day before. Bought 1 serving of 臭豆腐 for 40NT (SGD1.70) the first thing we reached since alot people are raving about 臭豆腐 in TW. ![]() Had a bite each and immediately regretted buying it! It smelled and tasted like rubbish chute, no joke. Threw it away because we couldn't have a second bite. Was just hoping to find a better one the next day or so. Disappointed though. Walked around the night market and saw the Spring Roll ice cream which I've been wanting to try! ![]() ![]() It's 2 scoops of ice cream wrapped with popiah skin with peanut shavings. Got ours at NT35(SGD1.50) each. I think it's a little overrated, maybe just the stall we bought from. Ice cream are quite meh and the peanut shavings are so annoying because it's so hard and sticky, keeps getting stuck on teeth. Overall, it's quite bad. Would rather eat the $1 ice cream w a slice of bread in SG, so much better! Mom also agreed that it wasn't nice. Threw mine after 2-3 bites because I was so damn annoyed with the peanuts shavings. Felt bad to waste food but more annoyed with food that is a waste of stomach space! Didn't really like to walk around while eating so we decided to takeaway some food and head back to the hotel to eat as it was so crowded at about 9pm+. And my period really makes me easily annoyed, was annoyed with the crowd and the bad food. Le sigh ~ Best decision to takeaway and eat at the hotel room because it's so comfy and major yummy! Even better to watch TV while eating! Happygirl94 riao! ![]() ![]() Dabao-ed back this box of Fried Oyster (蚵仔煎) for NT50 (SGD2.15) at one of the stores at the back alley! Look at the takeaway box, so damn adorable which makes my mood better before I devour the food! Although it was slightly cold when we started eating, it still tasted good! Really like the sauce that comes with it and they are quite generous with their amount of oysters! Our portion had like 6-7 oysters, super worth the $2.15! ![]() Above collage is the kind of really affordable yet delicious food which ends my night happily after some of the horrible food earlier on. Stick of quail eggs at NT20 (SGD0.85) with a tad of soy sauce and pepper. Simple yet delicious because it wasn't well cooked and wasn't dry at all. Whole bag of Fried Sweet Potato Balls w Sour Plum Powder at only NT30 (SGD1.30) which was so so Q and chewy! Not oily was a plus point when it's deep fried! Makes a good snack to chew on while watching TV. And the BEST FOOD OF THE TRIP SO FAR! Fried Yam w Salted Egg Yolk and Pork Floss is really the BOMBZ man! It's only at NT25 (SGD1.07) each! Skin is thin and crispy with salted egg yolk and pork floss wrapped with pure yam! Plus it wasn't oily although it's deep fried. My eyes went *-* and feels like in heaven when I first had a bite of it!! Regretted only getting one each! :( They do have other flavours like the plain yam which is NT20 or with Red Bean Paste etc, but the one with the pork floss and egg yolk is da best! SUMPA! 山猪 sausage which was really good as well, much better than usual sausages! It was only NT35 (SGD1.50) for such a huge piece! Skin is well grilled till slightly crispy and the sausage itself is so tender and juicy!!! Can't find a better word to describe it other than SHIOK!! Such yummy food marks the end of my Day 2 in Taipei! Although we didn't buy anything except food but we found really good food too at such low prices, satisfied! ^-^ |
